About Train A Girl Uganda (TAGU)
Our Story
Train A Girl Uganda (TAGU) is a girl-focused organization whose idea of formation sprang up in 2018 and was founded in September 2020. The founder members of Train a Girl Uganda (TAGU), motivated by passion to serve humanity, gender equality, and an inspiration to support girls and women to thrive in an equitable society, were desirous to form themselves into a nonprofit organization to pursue the noble cause.
In pursuit of the above passion, the founder members reached out to girls living in less privileged rural communities, in refugee settlements, rural schools, and orphanages, inspiring them to cultivate dreams and achieve greatness, while providing assorted dignity kits and literature materials to aid their learning and inspiration.
The endeavors of the founders blossomed into a significant impact in the lives of the few girls and women reached in the community, yet thousands were still at large with overwhelming needs that needed to be addressed.

TAGU: Built On A Firm Foundation
It is against this background that the founding members resolved to form a non-profit community-based organization that can provide a bigger platform and forum for advocating for and addressing the plight of girls and women within the Adjumani and Ugandan communities.
TAGU was born to address these challenges, and started operating locally in Adjumani district with projects targeting orphanages and some rural schools in Adjumani district. Since then, it has been in active service for about a year now, with the major activities being mentorship on career, self-worth and self-discovery and girl empowerment projects in schools and orphanages. These activities are aimed at taking girls through a series of counseling and guidance sessions to build self-esteem and discover their strengths, talents, and abilities, which they will in turn use to develop life and career plans and to do specific tasks aimed at achieving goals. The activities also provide a platform for sharing about gender equality, life choices, health, education, and personal hygiene, including menstrual hygiene management.

Empowering The Girl Child To Own Her Future…
We’re a girl-focused non-profit community based organization in Adjumani, Uganda, that is wholly invested in empowering the Girl-child to own her future. We are a country focused organization based in Adjumani District in the West-Nile Region of Uganda, currently serving five sub counties; Adjumani Town Council, Pakele, Okusijoni, Dzaipi, and Itirikwa.
Train A Girl Uganda identifies itself as a pay it forward movement of big sisters and brothers that emerged fairly triumphantly from the tunnels of life and desire to hold out the lamp midway through the dark tunnel for the little girls and boys still trapped in the darkness of their own vulnerabilities.
We hope that our movement grows bigger through partnerships and any other kind of support; that more enthusiastic individuals, institutions, establishments, or partners with a common cause collaborate with us to support, encourage, donate, and be a part of this movement to empower the Girl Child to Own her Future.
TAGU is interested in empowering girls and women, supporting girls’ education, and promoting adolescent girls and women’s health. Such efforts not only directly benefit the girl child and women but are also geared towards achieving Gender equality by putting an end to the harmful female subordinate status in society and their increased vulnerability to Gender based violence.

We Strive To Combat And Respond To Predisposing Conditions Resulting In Vulnerability, Which Exposes Girls And Women To Gender Inequality And Violence In Target Communities. We Hope For A Society Where All Girls And Women Have A Secured Future, Free Of Violence, Inequality And Able To Realize Their Full Potential.
